The school climate strikes that have led to tens of thousands of young people taking to the streets around the world over recent months are poised to arrive in the UK next Friday.

Thousands of pupils are expected to walk out of lessons at schools and colleges across the country amid growing concern about the escalating climate crisis.

The movement started in August when the 16-year-old schoolgirl Greta Thunberg held a solo protest outside Sweden's parliament. Now, up to 70,000 schoolchildren each week are taking part in 270 towns and cities worldwide.

Individual protests have been held in the UK, but next week a coordinated day of action is expected to result in walkouts in more than 30 towns and cities – from Lancaster to Truro, and Ullapool to Leeds.

Jake Woodier, of the UK Youth Climate Coalition, which is helping to coordinate the strikes, said Greta's message about the need for radical, urgent change had struck a chord with hundreds of thousand of young people in the UK.

"The images of what Greta did and then the huge strikes by schoolchildren in other countries have been widely shared by young people on social media and have really inspired people."

One wonders why they don't hold these protest marches at weekends. (Silly me- nobody would turn up, the kids would have better things to do, like playing on their X-Boxes!)

Perhaps, if the children really are concerned about the climate, they could make a really positive contribution by walking to school instead of arriving in mummy's car, throwing away their i-Pads, Nintendos and smart phones, and donating their pocket money the UN's climate fund.

GWPF Call For Insect Decline Paper To Be Withdrawn

London, 11 February: The scientific paper behind newspaper claims that insect populations were threatened with extinction was based on data known to be unreliable. That's according to the Global Warming Policy Foundation, which today called for the paper to be withdrawn.

The paper, by US scientists Bradford C Lister and Andres Garcia, claimed that a rapid decline in insect populations in a rainforest in Puerto Rico was the result of rising temperatures. The Washington Post called the study "hyperalarming", while the Guardian discussed climate change causing "insect collapse".

However, the authors' evidence that temperatures had, in fact, risen turns out to be based on a single weather station, which was known to be unreliable because of undocumented changes to equipment and location resulting in a substantial and abrupt increase in recorded temperatures in September 1992.

Since 1992, temperatures at this station have actually declined.

The Global Warming Policy Foundation has issued a formal complaint to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the journal that published the article, asking that the paper be withdrawn.

Three officers detained Kate Scottow at her home before quizzing her at a police station about an argument with an activist on Twitter over so-called 'deadnaming'.

The 38-year-old, from Hitchin, Hertfordshire, had her photograph, DNA and fingerprints taken and remains under investigation.

More than two months after her arrest on December 1, she has had neither her mobile phone or laptop returned, which she says is hampering her studies for a Masters in forensic psychology…

Confirming the arrest, Hertfordshire Police said: 'We take all reports of malicious communication seriously.'..

Sitcom writer Graham Linehan was given a verbal harassment warning by West Yorkshire Police after transgender activist Stephanie Hayden reported him for referring to her by her previous names and pronouns on Twitter.

A man dressing as or pretending to be a woman is a man. A "transgender woman" is a man. A man who has mutilated his body, chemically or by the knife, to better resemble a woman is a man.

This is truth: this is Reality. Speaking truth, speaking of Reality is rapidly becoming illegal. And must. Everybody knows of Reality, but everybody also wants their will to be Supreme. If Reality were legal, those who claim their will is Supreme will be reminded constantly that their will is not Supreme. This being intolerable, Reality must be not be allowed to damage the illusion.

This is the true religion of man.

The man who insists of speaking of Reality is not the same as the tranny or tranny ally who claims Reality is false. For the man speaking of Reality knows his will is (or should be) subservient to Reality. While those who embrace tranny madness—and many other similar beliefs—sees himself as his own god. And this is so even if, as most don't, use those words to describe their belief in Self. But it is still true, and is why this is not a culture war but a war of religion, which explains why heretics have to be hunted down and punished. Which is Supreme? Man or Reality?

Anyway, we hear British police don't carry guns. Though we can suppose they are now issued with erasers.

Item The tricky business of gender identity

Last November, a school in Brighton called Dorothy Stringer made the news when it was revealed that 76 of its pupils are either transgender or gender-non-conforming (TGNC). This isn't as unusual as you might think. At another school, which also hit the headlines last year, 17 pupils are in the process of changing gender and many schools now have policies in place to support pupils who identify as TGNC, including more than 80 with "gender neutral" uniforms. Referrals to the Tavistock, Britain's only NHS clinic specialising in children and young people who are TGNC, jumped from 697 in 2014-15 to 2,016 in 2016-17, an increase of 289 per cent.

In some cases, these patients will be prescribed "puberty blockers", drugs that delay the onset of puberty. If they're over 16, they may be offered hormone therapy so they develop the secondary sexual characteristics associated with the gender they identify with — breasts for those transitioning to female and facial hair for those transitioning to male. Older patients may even be given the option of gender reassignment surgery, provided their psychotherapist is satisfied they are genuinely suffering from "gender dysphoria" (see below).

So how do these packs of girls, for it is mostly girls, suddenly decide they are really boys? Obviously, such things are "in the air". They get the idea from their parents, from the teachers (try home schooling, please), from the culture, and from each other. Young girls are, much more than boys, pack animals.

When such a fad throbs through the student body, not one person in authority has the guts to say "Cut it out!" Not the teachers, not the parents. All live in either enthusiastic embrace of tranny madness, or in fear of the mob.

They cannot count on authority. Authority is cutting and running.

Until 2013, gender dysphoria was referred to in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), the psychiatrist's Bible, as "Gender Identity Disorder". But it was renamed because of the stigma attached to the word disorder and it is now taboo for mental health professionals to think of it as a mental illness. (Last year, the World Health Organisation stopped classifying transgender people as mentally ill.)

A similar kind of thing happened with homosexuality, and now with "conversions", e.g. this, this, this (since homosexuals or transsexuals do not exist in any essential way, there is nothing to convert). Doctors who speak in favor of Reality have to learn to duck: "LGBT COMMUNITY OUTRAGED AS JOHN HOPKINS PSYCHIATRIST SAYS THAT BEING TRANSGENDER IS A MENTAL DISORDER AND SEX CHANGES ARE BIOLOGICALLY IMPOSSIBLE."

A Plane That Landed On Greenland’s Surface In 1942 Has Been Found…Buried Under 103.6 Meters Of Ice

I. Emergency Landing In 1942

In July, 1942, a squadron of six U.S. P-38 fighter planes and two B-17 bombers embarked on a flight mission to England when they were suddenly bombarded by severe weather.

All 8 planes were consequently forced to emergency-land on the southeastern corner of the Greenland ice sheet, about 29 kilometers from the coastal edge.

While all 25 of the occupants were ultimately rescued, the 8 planes had to be abandoned atop the surface of Greenland as it existed in 1942.  Eventually the planes were buried beneath decades of ice and snow accumulation.

II. The first "Lost Squadron" plane rescued in 1992…buried under 268 feet of ice

Over the course of the next several decades, nostalgic interest in a search-and-recovery effort grew.  After all, the Lost Squadron planes were effectively new when they were abandoned and, if preserved well enough, they could potentially be restored to flying condition .

The first several attempts to locate the planes during the 1980s were unsuccessful, as the search crews had underestimated how deep beneath the surface the planes were after 40-plus years of ice sheet growth.  It ultimately took 12 tries before the first plane was spotted.

In 1988 the search crews were finally able to pinpoint the location of a P-38 that was ultimately named "Glacier Girl".   She was buried 260 feet (79.2 meters) below the surface of the ice sheet as it existed in 1988.

By 1992 the 260-foot depth had grown to 268 feet (81.7 meters), and "Glacier Girl" was slowly (piece-by-piece) retrieved from the ice.

III. Another Lost Squadron plane was found in mid-2018…buried under 340 feet of ice

Accompanied by far less fanfare, another Lost Squadron P-38 was located in 2018 using drone technology.

This plane was found buried under another 72 feet – 21.9 meters – of ice relative to the 1992 recovery site for the first P-38 rescue (340 feet versus 268 feet).

IV. Potential implications and Greenland observations

Scientists use eclipse data to study motions in the solar corona

The Sun continues to pose questions for scientists, such as the way solar cycle variability works and the surprisingly intense heat of its corona, compared to its surface.

A team of scientists who collected numerous observations of last summer's total solar eclipse via telescopes and electronic cameras has used the data to better understand motions within the solar corona, the Sun's outer atmosphere, says Space Reporter.

Jay Pasachoff of Williams College in Williamstown, MA, who led the team in observing the eclipse in Salem, Oregon, presented their findings to the 232nd Meeting of the American Astronomical Society (AAS) in early June.

His team has observed numerous solar eclipses during various times in the 11-year sunspot cycle.

The Sun's corona is visible only during the total phase of a solar eclipse, which lasted about two-and-a-half minutes on August 21, 2017.

"We could see giant streamers coming out of low solar latitudes as well as plumes out of the Sun's north and south poles, all held in their beautiful shapes by the Sun's magnetic field. In the months since the eclipse, we have used computers to pick out the best part of dozens of the images to make extremely high-contrast images that allow us to measure motions at extremely high speeds in the corona, as we compare our composite images with some made by co-ordinated colleagues 65 minutes farther east along the path of totality," Pasachoff said.

Incredibly, motions within the solar corona attained speeds of several hundred miles per second during the eclipse.

Because the sunspot cycle is approaching solar minimum, when the Sun is least active, coronal streamers extending millions of miles into space were seen only in the Sun's equatorial regions, he explained.

Thin gas plumes were seen extending both north and south of the Sun's disk.

Although the solar corona is about one million times fainter than the rest of the Sun, it is also significantly hotter than the Sun's surface for reasons scientists do not yet fully understand.

Experimental characterization of multi-nozzle atomization interference for dust reduction between hydraulic supports at a fully mechanized coal mining face

Abstract

To analyze the distribution pattern concerning multi-nozzle interference spray particle granularity between hydraulic supports, the present study conducts atomization interference experimental characterization for three types of nozzles used in coal mines based on a Doppler laser interference spray dust suppression simulation experimental system. The results indicate that for single-nozzle atomization, the impact of spray pressure on spray droplet size is gradually subdued, and a spray pressure of 8 MPa yields the best result; compared with single-nozzle spray, the multi-nozzle atomization interference effect can downsize the spray field overlapping zone, leading to an improved uniformity of overall spray particle distribution. As the spray field overlapping coefficient k increases, the particle size of the interference spray field decreases first and then increases. As the spray field overlapping coefficient reaches 0.4, the distribution of spray droplet size is most concentrated, corresponding to the optimal atomized dust suppression effect. Practical testing indicates that the optimal spray field overlapping coefficient measured at a fully mechanized mining face agrees well with the experimental result. Under the optimal parameters, the average total dust and respirable dust suppression rates measured at various measuring points on the downwind side during support relocation reach 78.93% and 80.53%, respectively.
