The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of high purity magnesium and the magnesium-aluminum-zinc alloy AZ31 as sacrificial anodes in an electrocoagulation process with polarity change for the treatment of synthetic indigo carmine solution. It was studied the effect of the main parameters such as temperature, anodic material, current density, initial dye concentration, and agitation speed on the diminishing of indigo carmine concentration and non-purgeable organic carbon. Also, image analysis was used in conjunction with zeta potential measurements to understand the mechanism of flocs formation. The best results were 80% and 96% removal for non-purgeable organic carbon and dye content respectively at room temperature, by using turbulent regime, initial dye concentration of 100 mg L−1 and 50 A m−2 as current density with AZ31 alloy as electrodes. Particularly, high purity magnesium reached 75% in non-purgeable organic carbon removal and 86% in dye removal at the conditions described above. Finally, an additional improvement of 43% in the diminishing of the organic carbon content was observed when polarity change was used, a phenomenon that was attributed to the distribution of the oxidation reaction between electrodes, avoiding the saturation of the surface with oxide and hydroxide layers. Major areas and major fractal dimension were obtained by using a polarity change.

According to Wikipedia, the Sahara covers a vast area of some 9.2 million square kilometers. Eight percent of that translates into more than 700,000 square kilometers. That's an area that's almost as big as Germany and France combined! This is profound.
In other words, it's well over 10,000 Manhattans!
If the added green area were effectively used for agriculture, it could produce enough food to feed the African continent. Unfortunately, this is a fact that the doomsday-obsessed media, activists and ruling politicians fear will become publicly known. They instead would prefer that the globe returns to a climate of the 1980s, when drought and famine ravaged the vast North African region.
According to the recent study, the cause was a decline in vegetation fires in a warmer and more humid climate. Abstract:
Drivers of woody plant encroachment over Africa
While global deforestation induced by human land use has been quantified, the drivers and extent of simultaneous woody plant encroachment (WPE) into open areas are only regionally known. WPE has important consequences for ecosystem functioning, global carbon balances and human economies. Here we report, using high-resolution satellite imagery, that woody vegetation cover over sub-Saharan Africa increased by 8% over the past three decades and that a diversity of drivers, other than CO2, were able to explain 78% of the spatial variation in this trend. A decline in burned area along with warmer, wetter climates drove WPE, although this has been mitigated in areas with high population growth rates, and high and low extremes of herbivory, specifically browsers. These results confirm global greening trends, thereby bringing into question widely held theories about declining terrestrial carbon balances and desert expansion. Importantly, while global drivers such as climate and CO2 may enhance the risk of WPE, managing fire and herbivory at the local scale provides tools to mitigate continental WPE.

California is counting on PG&E to keep investing in clean energy to fight climate change, says the LA Times.
But its bankruptcy could imperil solar and wind contracts.
Climate change helped fuel the deadly fires that prompted California's largest power company to announce Monday that it would file for bankruptcy in the face of $30 billion in potential liabilities.
In a grim twist, the bankruptcy of PG&E Corp. could now slow California's efforts to fight climate change.
The Golden State has dramatically reduced planet-warming emissions from the electricity sector, largely by requiring utilities to increase their use of solar and wind power and fund energy efficiency upgrades for homes and businesses. Lawmakers recently set a target of 100% climate-friendly electricity by 2045.
But those government mandates have depended on PG&E's Pacific Gas & Electric unit and other utilities being able to invest tens of billions of dollars in clean energy technologies.
PG&E's ability to keep making those investments could be in serious jeopardy once it files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, some energy experts say. Even before the company said it would file for bankruptcy, the looming threat of wildfire liabilities had decimated its credit rating, which raises the cost of borrowing capital.
The massive Topaz Solar Farm in California's San Luis Obispo County, an electricity supplier to PG&E owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Energy, also saw its credit rating downgraded to junk status last week amid fears the San Francisco-based utility won't be able to pay its bills in full.
In the short term, PG&E might stop signing renewable energy contracts, although contracting had already slowed in the last few years as customers departed in droves for newly established local energy providers run by city and county governments. In the long term, renewable energy developers and their lenders may hesitate to do business with PG&E — and, potentially, with other California utilities that could also face significant future wildfire costs.
"If we're having a couple billion dollars a year of fire damage and insurance losses, quite apart from PG&E, this is going to put the entire state of California at risk," said V. John White, executive director of the Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies, a Sacramento-based trade group.

Here, we aimed to investigate florasulam photodegradation in aquatic environments under UV-visible irradiation. LC-MS/MS was used to explore the photolysis kinetics of florasulam degradation with respect to different light source types, florasulam concentrations, water sources, and pH. We also tested whether the addition of the nitrate ions, Fe3+, or I− to the reaction solution influences florasulam photolysis kinetics. NO3− accelerates florasulam degradation at low concentrations (0.01–1 mg L−1), but decreases the process at higher concentrations. At low concentrations (≤ 0.1 mg L−1), Fe3+ enhanced florasulam photodegradation obviously. However, the addition of 0.01–10 mg L−1 I− decreased the degradation rate linearly. The florasulam photolysis rates in alkaline and neutral solutions were higher than that in acidic solutions. The florasulam degradation rate under mercury light irradiation was greater than that under xenon light. The rate of florasulam degradation in distilled water was greater than in tap water, lake water, and rice paddy water. As the concentration of florasulam increased, the photodegradation rate decreased. Six kinds of transformation products (TPs) were isolated and identified using UPLC/Q-TOF-MS. Based on these TPs and their evolutionary processes, we inferred the florasulam degradation mechanisms, identifying four possible florasulam degradation pathways. Cleavage of the florasulam sulfonamide bond yielded TPs2. TPs2 was intermolecularly rearranged to form a SO2 extrusion compound, TPs3. Cleavage of the [C-F] bonds led to the formation of TPsl, TPs4, and TPs5, while hydroxylation led to the formation of TPs6. We then predicted the stability of each of the florasulam TPs in water. TPs2 and TPs3 rapidly degraded after reaching maximum concentration due to poor light stability. TPs4 and TPs6 were more photostable than florasulam (the parent compound) and may be important contributors to water pollution.
Everyone "knows" fires are caused by climate change, but how many Australians know that when it comes to the huge Californian fires of October 2017 as many as 750 civil suits have been filed against Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E),the 150 year old utility in California? The fire bill is running at around $30 billion dollars. PG&E are facing financial ruin, calling in a Chapter 11, and going broke.
That's bad news for people filing the claims, but it is also bad news for renewable energy.PG&E are a major holder of some $35 billion dollars in long term green energy contracts many of which are at above market rates. PG&E may not have to pay out those high prices which means the Green industry will be hurt too.
What goes around comes around. Bad science begets bad business. The Green Industry could have cared enough about the environment to speak out about reducing fire risks through managing fuel loads. Instead they were busy putting up windfarms to stop bushfires instead.
Meanwhile their friends are still doing their best to increase fuel loads in order to reduce CO2 (and stop bushfires).
